Study & Share Sermon Blog

This is Pastor Jared's weekly sermon info and his weekly Study and Share devotional Bible study. Unless otherwise noted all sermons and studies are copyright Jared Stillions 2020-2023. The devotional Bible studies may be reproduced & shared for personal, non-sale use, provided this copyright notice is included. The studies are formatted two to a page to make sharing it easier. Weekly posts go live at 9:00 AM on Sundays.

You can find his sermon podcast on the sermon-cast page. Check back each Sunday for new content. The podcast will soon be listed with major services.
Why not put them on the same page? Due to limitations of our website builder.

By the way, here's the Lutheran Confessions, The Book of Concord, online and in the public domain. These writings, including Luther's Small & Large Catechisms are frequently referenced in these devotional studies. The Confessions are the historic doctrinal standard of the Lutheran Church and a faithful exposition of the Bible. You could say they are squared, leveled, and plumb by and to the Bible itself.

Sunday's Sermon
"Home Grown" You give them something because you’ve grown some fruits & veggies, caught some fish, baked some bread & so forth.
Jesus multiplies it in ways we can’t imagine.

Sunday's Sermon
"
You Are a Good Seed"
God says that those who belong to Christ, who are baptized believers, are good seed. Be patient, God takes the long view toward the final harvest, but don’t eat the seed corn…

Sunday's Sermon
"Are You Growing" Some folk are bad soil in which nothing from the kingdom grows. Our lives as baptized believers have all four kinds of soil.

Sunday's Sermon
"God’s Goal Is Our Happiness"Smith & Denton coined the phrase “moralistic therapeutic deism” to describe this vague, unspecific departure from Christianity

Things the Bible Doesn’t Say
Myth-busting some conventional wisdom and common sentiments about the Bible. Seems we humans have been pulling things out of thin air and misattributing them to God since, oh, about Genesis 3:3.

Festival of St. John the Baptizer's Nativity

Sunday's Sermon
"You Have to Make a Name for Yourself"
A name can be a shortcut to evaluate quality. Exploring deceptions men face as they make a name for themselves in everyday life.

Today is also our Name Brand Sunday, reaching out to the men. They've all been invited to wear their favorite name brand logo, even if it's on a t-shirt or a hat. I'm in my Columbia PFG shirt. A $15 Academy gift card prize was given at each service to the guy with the biggest logo and aTwo $10 Academy gift card door prize drawings will be held from both services.

Sunday's Sermon
"God Helps Those Who Help Themselves"
So said Aesop’s fables, not the Bible. This most-often cited "bible verse" isn't from the Old Testament or the 10 Commandments. It's not the central idea of the Bible either. Grace is. However, God just might help us who help our neighbors...

Festival of the Holy Trinty

June 7, 2020

Sunday's Sermon
Tactical Operations
God’s mission has a church to carry it out. God ordains the baptized, believing Body of Christ to carry out his (preexisting) purpose of making disciples. By the way, at St. Peter we give this mission local specificity calling it Developing fully devoted followers of Jesus.

Easter II, the Sequel
Rarely is the followup as good as the original. The Festivals of Our Lord's Ascension and Pentecost are no letdowns from Easter Sunday. As two our six primary festivals they matter deeply for the everyday lives of God's people. (BTW, the six are Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, & Holy Trinty). For the series I sorta wanted to parody the Die Hard movie titles because Easter II: Easter Harder is amusing, but I thought better of it.
